DHAKA, Aug 22, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Standing Committee member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan today said no nation could survive by destroying nature.

"No nation could survive on earth by isolating and destroying nature. There are many examples in the history of primitive civilizations of the world," he said at a tree plantation programme at Uttarkhan in the city.

As part of the BNP's 47th founding anniversary, the party organized the tree plantation programme, according to a BNP press release.

"Everyone should be aware about the environment and the future. We will make this promise to save Bangladesh and protect the environment," Moyeen Khan said.

He said, "Plant trees, save the country. As part of that, our current acting chairman Tarique Rahman has made a call from faraway London, saying that we have to be aware about environmental aspect in future."

"Not just planting trees, but we have to be aware while preparing our development plans today so that we do not destroy environment of Bangladesh again. The autocratic government destroyed the environment of Bangladesh," he added.

The BNP leader said a coal-fired power project was set up in the Sundarbans during the Awami League government, adding, "You can tell whether that power project is working or not. I will say that our biodiversity has been destroyed because of that project. So, we have to be aware today."

He urged the people not to do anything that can harm the environment and damage the ecological balance, the BNP press release said.
